Many of us experience seasons where our faith feels lukewarm, much like the church in Laodicea. But the good news is, you can restart your relationship with God and reignite that passion. Body
Recognize the Lukewarm State
The first step in restarting your relationship with God is recognizing where you stand. In Revelation 3:15-16, Jesus tells the church in Laodicea, “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” This is a wake-up call. Just like the lukewarm water in Laodicea, our faith can become stale and unappealing. Take a moment to reflect on your spiritual life. Are you passionate and fervent, or have you become complacent?
Seek Spiritual Wealth
True spiritual wealth isn’t found in material possessions or earthly success. Isaiah 55:1-2 invites us to come and drink, even if we have no money, and to enjoy the finest food for free. This is a metaphor for the spiritual nourishment that Jesus offers. When we focus on earthly treasures, we miss out on the true wealth that comes from a relationship with Him. Jesus advises us to buy gold from Him—gold that has been purified by fire. This means growing our faith through trials and challenges, which ultimately brings us closer to God.
Pursue Spiritual Health
Spiritual health involves having clear spiritual vision and understanding. Revelation 3:18 advises us to buy ointment for our eyes so we can see. Pride often blinds us to our own spiritual needs. The Bible frequently talks about spiritual blindness and deafness, caused by a hard heart and an unwillingness to admit our faults. To regain spiritual health, we need to humble ourselves and ask God to open our eyes. This means being willing to admit when we’re wrong and seeking God’s guidance in all areas of our lives.
Clothe Yourself in Spiritual Garments
Jesus offers us spiritual garments—salvation and righteousness. Isaiah 61:10 speaks of being dressed in the clothing of salvation and draped in a robe of righteousness. These garments cover our spiritual nakedness and shame. When we try to cover ourselves with our own efforts, we fall short. But when we accept the righteousness of Christ, we are clothed in His perfection. This means letting go of our own attempts to earn God’s favor and resting in the grace that He freely offers.
Fellowship with Jesus
Revelation 3:20 says, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” Jesus desires a close, personal relationship with you. He wants to spend time with you, just like friends sharing a meal. This means setting aside time each day to be in His presence, whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or simply sitting quietly and listening. True fellowship with Jesus requires slowing down and making Him a priority in your life.

Restarting your relationship with God involves recognizing areas of lukewarmness, seeking spiritual wealth and health, clothing yourself in Christ’s righteousness, and prioritizing fellowship with Jesus.
