Like a Roman soldier's cleated sandals, the shoes of peace do two jobs: they plant our feet so we can stand our ground, and they make us ready to move. That peace isn't a feeling we work up — it's a gift Christ purchased at the cross for those near and those far off. And the same peace that steadies us is the peace worth carrying to someone else.
We are not God's attorneys, hired to win the argument. We are His witnesses, simply telling what He has done, while the Holy Spirit does the real work of drawing people home. So we don't lose hope — not even for the ones we've prayed over for thirty years. Christ is your peace: plant your feet on it, and carry it to your one more.
