Ever feel like you’re fighting battles on every front—at work, at home, in your relationships—and wondering why nothing seems to get better? Here’s a truth that might surprise you: you could be fighting the wrong enemy.

We live in a world obsessed with conflict. Political wars. Culture wars. Social media wars. We’re constantly told to pick a side and fight. But what if the most important battle we’re facing isn’t the one dominating our newsfeeds? What if there’s a spiritual war raging all around us, and most of us don’t even realize we’re in it?

The War You Didn’t Know You Were Fighting

The Apostle Paul makes it crystal clear in Ephesians 6:12: “We are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world.” Read that again. Your real enemy isn’t your neighbor who votes differently than you. It’s not your boss, your spouse, or even that person at church who drives you crazy.

Your enemy is Satan and his army of demons waging war against everything God loves—including you.

Here’s the problem: when we don’t recognize the real enemy, we end up fighting the wrong battles. We waste our energy arguing on Facebook, building walls between ourselves and others, and treating people like opponents instead of what they really are—the prize worth fighting for.

You’re Stronger Than You Think

Before you panic about spiritual warfare, remember this: the battle has already been won. Jesus defeated sin, death, and the devil at the cross. We’ve read the end of the book, and God wins.

But here’s the catch—your strength to stand firm doesn’t come from you. It comes from God. That’s why Paul tells us to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” (Ephesians 6:10). You can’t fight spiritual battles in your own strength. You need God’s presence and His power, available to you through the Holy Spirit.

Think of it like this: you wouldn’t play football without a helmet and pads. You’d be foolish to step onto that field unprotected. Yet many Christians try to fight spiritual battles without putting on the full armor of God. We need every piece—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and God’s Word—to stand firm.

Never Fight in the Dark

Satan’s domain is darkness. His weapon of choice? Lies. He whispers three basic questions designed to make you doubt: “Did God really say that?” (questioning God’s Word), “Does God really love you?” (questioning God’s worth), and “Did it really count for you?” (questioning God’s work).

The antidote? Live in the light. Bring your sin, shame, and struggles out of hiding and into the presence of Jesus. Stop pretending everything’s fine. Be honest about your battles. Confess your struggles to trusted Christian friends. When you drag your darkness into God’s light, you’ll watch Him be victorious over what He’s already defeated.

Your Mission: Fight for People, Not Against Them

Here’s your call to action: identify one person in your life who doesn’t know Jesus or has wandered away from Him. That person isn’t your enemy—they’re the prize. Commit to praying for them daily this week. Ask God to show you one practical way to reach out and be a light in their darkness.

Remember, we are at war—but not with people. We’re fighting for them. So put on the full armor of God, stand firm in His strength, and step into the battle with confidence. The victory is already yours.
